If my computer is found to have copyrighted materials, what steps can the copyright holder take against me?
ANSWER
If they choose to do anything at all, you will get a letter from a lawyer asking you to settle by paying a certain amount and that if you don’t, you risk having to pay much more.
This is a stressful, seemingly unfair, but common practice. Generally speaking, if the amount they ask you to pay is under $2000, you should pay it. But consult with a lawyer about it before you do.
