Medical science had been searching for the cause of cancer until today they have not found or explain why cancer occurs. I have a theory that will explain formation of cancer and reversing cancer cells back to normal cells. Can I have that theory patented?
ANSWER
You can copyright the text of your theory, but you cannot copyright the concepts behind the theory itself. You can, however, patent a tangible application of the theory, such a treatment derived from the theory. But then, so could anyone else. In other words, once you publish your theory, others could patent practical applications provided they are new, inventive and industrially applicable.

Dr Patentsteins' Tips
When you think you might have an invention with sales potential, immediately discuss the idea with a registered patent practitioner | Ensure you sketch all significant elements of your invention on paper, writing as much detail and comments regarding its' operation | After creating any descriptions or sketching your invention, ensure a witness (or even two) sign the paper to support your claim |
