Formal Response After Examiner's Amendment

Inventors and technology/R&D managers are invited to ask Dr. Patentstein to serve

I have received a Notice of Allowance for claims contained in an examiner's amendment. The claims are not exactly as I'd want them, but I feel my options are few. I am aware I can file a continuation before issuance, but I've also heard that some type of formal response to the amendment should be filed. Can you describe what this response should look like?

ANSWER

If you're an independent inventor, the Examiner is obligated to help you with such questions. So, please call the Examiner and explain your concerns and he'll direct you in a manner that suits him. Of course, because he's not an experienced attorney, and he doesn't represent you, you will not get the same result as using an attorney.
